Why do so many visitors fall under Sheringham's spell? Sheringham is a unique, friendly and characterful small town with local shops, including fishmongers selling locally caught fish and famous Sheringham crabs and lobsters, greengrocers selling locally grown produce, excellent bakeries, butchers selling local meat, a well stocked health food shop and a new deli both selling local cheeses, olives and etc, icecream shops one of which sells 140 delicious varieties of Norfolk made icecream and 2 local supermarkets. There are bookstores, newsagents, art galleries, gift and craft shops, several clothing stores and a market twice a week. There are excellent pubs, restaurants and cafes, a thriving theatre with a varied programme of plays, talks, films, exhibitions and much more, three museums,detailing the history of the town, its fishing heritage and lifeboats. There is live music of many different kinds both day and evening including during the winter in pubs, social clubs, churches etc and the famous Sheringham Shantymen frequently give concerts and perform in a variety of venues. The North Norfolk Steam Railway has a full programme of events and festivals. There is a cliff top Golf course and two putting greens for less professional fun! Close to Sheringham there are stately homes and gardens such as Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park, Blicking, Holkham Hall, and many others. For animal and bird lovers there are to mention but a few, the Shire Horse Centre and Sanctuary, the new Cromer Zoo, Pensthorpe Park (of BBC TV Springwatch fame), Cley marshes and the new Norfolk Wildlife Trust veiwing THINGY???? Sheringham has been offering a warm and friendly welcome to visitors for well over a hundred years. Visit any time of year and there is always plenty to do and see in Sheringham. Sheringham Carnival is an annual event which spans eight summer days and Carnival Day is always the first Wednesday in August. In the 1890’s Sheringham's fishermen organised regattas; those regattas were the origins of today's Carnival. There is an open market on the main car park on Wednesdays and Saturdays, adding even more colour to a bustling scene. Sheringham prides itself on its award-winning beaches. The EU Blue Flag has been retained for several years. The seawater is completely safe for swimming and is among the cleanest in Britain. The low-tide reveals golden sands which are the at the heart of many happy holiday memories. The Splash Leisure Centre provides a wonderful alternative venue all year round for swimmers and fitness enthusiasts. The Splash has a tropical swimming pool, gymnasium and poolside café. There is also a gym and swimming pool at Pinewood just outside Sheringham.
